How to Use

1Drop one PDF onto the upload area, or click to choose it.
2Under Position, click one of the six buttons: Top Left, Top Center, Top Right, Bottom Left, Bottom Center or Bottom Right.
3Move the Font Size slider (8 to 24 pt).

Where the number goes and what it says

Pick one of six positions, a font size from 8 to 24 points, and optional text before and after the number.

The positions are the three along the bottom and the three along the top, each a fixed distance in from the edge. The prefix and suffix fields are what turn a bare number into something readable: entering Page before it and of 24 after gives you Page 7 of 24. Both are optional, so leaving them empty produces just the digit. The number is centred or aligned according to the position you chose, and appears on every page.

Starting from a number other than one

You can set the first number, which matters when the document is one part of something larger.

This is the setting people look for when a report is split across files, or when a cover and contents pages should not count towards the numbering. Set the starting value to continue from where the previous part ended, and the numbers increment from there through the document. What you cannot do is skip pages: every page gets a number, including the cover, so if the cover must stay clean, split it off first and number the remainder.

Numbers are drawn on top of the page

The number is added as new content over the existing page, so it can land on top of something already there.

Nothing is moved aside to make room, because the page layout is fixed once a PDF exists. If your document already has a footer, a page number of its own or a full-bleed image at the bottom, the new number will sit over it. Check the first two pages and the last before you rely on the result, and switch to a top position if the bottom is crowded. A smaller font size also helps it tuck into a tight margin.

Latin characters only

The prefix and suffix are drawn with a built-in font covering basic Latin, so other scripts will not render.

Digits and ordinary English words are safe. Urdu, Arabic and other non-Latin text in the prefix or suffix will not draw correctly. If you need a header line as well as a number, Add Header and Footer handles both at once and understands tokens for the current page and the total, which saves typing the total by hand.

FAQ

Can I start numbering from a number other than 1?

Not in this tool's interface. The page number always begins at 1 on the first page of the file. If you need a different starting number, the engine supports it, but there is no control for it on this page.

Can it insert the total page count automatically, like "3 of 12"?

No. The suffix is plain text, so you would have to type the total yourself (for example " / 12"), and it would be the same on every page. There is no automatic total or token substitution.

Can I number only some pages or skip the cover page?

No. Every page in the PDF gets a number. The number is placed 30 points from the page edge, in black, and cannot be moved to a custom position or recoloured.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The numbers are drawn on the pages in your browser and the finished PDF is created locally, so the file is not sent to a server for this job.
