About this tool

Updated

How days between dates are counted

The calculator compares the two selected UTC calendar dates and reports the absolute number of whole calendar days between them.

Using calendar dates avoids a one-hour daylight-saving shift changing the count. If the end date comes before the start date, the tool still shows the size of the gap.

Inclusive versus exclusive date counting

Exclusive counting leaves out the start date; inclusive counting includes both the start and end date.

For the same date, exclusive counting is zero days and inclusive counting is one day. Select the method that matches the wording of your non-official planning task.

When not to rely on a simple date difference

A simple calendar-day count does not apply business-day, holiday, legal, tax, visa, contract or payroll rules.

Check the governing policy or an official source when a deadline has consequences. This calculator provides transparent arithmetic, not legal or administrative advice. Business-day calculators can exclude weekends but may still need a country, region and holiday calendar. Contract wording can also define whether the day an event occurs is counted, which is why the inclusive switch is explicit rather than assumed.

FAQ

Does the calculator include the start and end date?

By default it counts the days between them. Turn on the inclusive option to count both selected dates.

Do daylight-saving changes affect the answer?

No. The tool compares UTC calendar dates rather than elapsed clock hours.

Can I use this for legal or payroll deadlines?

No. Official deadlines may exclude weekends, holidays or use jurisdiction-specific counting rules.
