Size is the easy part here

The 350 KB maximum is generous. What gets visa photos rejected is the background, the lighting and the framing.

A 35 × 45 mm photo at print resolution is only a few hundred pixels across, so it fits inside 350 KB with room to spare — you will usually see a result well under a tenth of the limit, and that is correct rather than a mistake. Because size is rarely the problem, this page prints NADRA's full list of photo rules alongside the tool, so you can check the things that actually cause a rejection before you upload.

How much of the frame your face should fill

NADRA asks for a close-up of your head and the top of your shoulders, with your face taking up 70 to 80 percent of the photograph.

That is tighter than most people crop. A photo where you are standing in a room, even a well-lit one with a plain wall behind you, will usually fail on framing. Use the size slider to bring the frame in until your head fills most of it, leaving a small margin above your hair. The dashed oval is a rough guide to where a face normally sits; NADRA's percentage is the rule that matters.

The rules that are not about the file

No more than six months old, plain white background, no glasses, even lighting, neutral expression, mouth closed, and you alone in the frame.

No tool can check any of these for you, which is why they are listed in full on this page with a link to NADRA's guide. The ones most often missed are the glasses rule, which is absolute, and the lighting: a flash fired straight at a wall produces both a shadow behind you and a reflection on your face. Daylight from a window, with the wall a step or two behind you, avoids both.

FAQ

What size does a Pakistan visa photo need to be?

The Pakistan Online Visa System photograph guide says photos must be 45 mm high by 35 mm wide, with your face taking up 70 to 80 percent of the frame, and that a file can be up to 350 KB.

Can I wear glasses or a head covering?

NADRA's guide says the photograph must show your eyes clearly with no glasses on. Head coverings are permitted, provided your facial features from the bottom of your chin to the top of your forehead and both edges of your face are clearly shown.

Why is my photo much smaller than 350 KB?

Because 350 KB is a maximum, not a target. A 35 × 45 mm photo at print resolution needs far fewer pixels than that, and adding more would only make the file heavier without showing a reviewer anything extra.

What else does NADRA require?

A colour photo no more than six months old, on a plain white background, in sharp focus, with even lighting and no shadows, flash reflections or red eye. You must be alone in the frame, looking at the camera with a neutral expression and your mouth closed. All of these are listed on this page.
