The four properties you can set

You can write Title, Author, Subject and Keywords. Page content is never touched.

These are the document properties a PDF reader shows in its file information panel, and they are separate from anything printed on the pages. Title is the one that does visible work: many readers show it in the window or browser tab in place of the file name, so a document called final-v7-REAL.pdf can still present itself properly. Keywords are entered as a comma-separated list and stored as separate terms.

Empty boxes are skipped, not cleared

Leaving a field blank leaves the existing value in place. It does not blank it out.

This catches people who expect an empty box to mean empty. If a document already carries an author you want gone, clearing the field here will not remove it — the tool only writes the fields you actually fill in. Use PDF Metadata Remover to blank the properties first, then come back here to set just the ones you want. Clearing and then writing is the reliable order whenever you want full control.

What you cannot change here

Creator, Producer and the creation and modification dates are not editable from this page.

Creator and Producer record the software that made and wrote the file, and along with the timestamps they are often the fields that reveal most about a document's origin. If your goal is privacy rather than presentation, this is the wrong tool: the remover clears Creator and Producer, and nothing here alters dates. This page is for making a document describe itself properly, not for covering its tracks.

Why it is worth filling in

Good properties make a file easier to find later, and they follow the document wherever it goes.

Desktop search, document management systems and many readers index these fields, so a real title and subject make a PDF findable months later when the file name means nothing to you. They also survive being emailed and re-saved, unlike a name that whoever receives it will change. It takes a few seconds on anything you expect to keep or send out.

FAQ

Can I clear a field by leaving it blank?

No. Empty boxes are skipped rather than applied, so an existing title or author stays. To blank out properties, use the PDF Metadata Remover instead.

How do I enter keywords?

Type them in the Keywords box separated by commas, for example: invoice, 2026, client. They are stored as a list of keywords in the document properties.

Can I change creator, producer or dates?

Not from this page. The interface only offers Title, Author, Subject and Keywords, and dates are not editable.

Will the title show in the browser tab?

Many PDF viewers use the Title property for the window or tab title, but that depends on the viewer. Some show the file name instead.
