The six fields this clears

It blanks Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator and Producer in one pass, with nothing to configure.

Those are the document properties a reader shows in its file information panel, and they are where identifying details usually leak. Creator and Producer are the two people forget: they record the program that made the file and the one that wrote it out, which can quietly reveal the software, and sometimes the version, used inside an organisation. Author often still holds the account name of whoever created the document, even when the visible content gives nothing away.

What it deliberately does not touch

The creation and modification timestamps are left in place, and so is everything printed on the pages.

If the dates matter for your situation, check them in a reader afterwards, because this tool will not remove them. It also does not read the pages themselves. A name in a letterhead, a signature, a header on every sheet or a watermark is page content, not metadata, and it stays exactly where it is. Clearing the properties makes a file anonymous in its file information panel only, which is a much narrower claim than making the document anonymous.

Not the same as redaction

This is a privacy tidy-up before sharing, not a way to hide sensitive information inside a document.

Treat it as the step you take before posting a PDF publicly or attaching it to an application, in the same spirit as stripping EXIF data from a photo before uploading it. If you need text or an image genuinely removed from a page so that it cannot be recovered, no metadata tool can do that, and neither can a tool that simply covers the area over. That job needs the content deleted from the file itself.

If you want to set values instead of clearing them

The two are opposites and they pair well. Clear everything here first, then set just the fields you actually want public — a real document title, for instance, which many readers display in the window or tab. Note that the editor skips any box you leave empty rather than blanking it, so clearing first and then writing is the reliable order if you want full control over what the file ends up saying.

FAQ

Does it remove everything hidden in a PDF?

No. It blanks six document-info fields. Creation and modification dates are not removed, and the on-page notice in the tool overstates this. Separate XMP metadata and any custom properties are also not cleared, and neither are names inside the visible page text.

Is it enough to hide who wrote the document?

It removes the Author field, but names can still appear in comments, form fields, the file name or the page content. Check the result yourself before sharing a sensitive file.

Will this change how the PDF looks?

No. Only the document properties are rewritten; pages, fonts and images are copied through as they are.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The PDF is processed in your browser.
