How to Use

  1. 1Add one image in the drop area.
  2. 2Pick an Aspect Ratio: 1:1, 4:3, 16:9, 3:2, 9:16 or 2:3.
  3. 3Under "When the ratio differs", choose Crop to fill (trims the edges) or Fit with padding (keeps the whole image). With padding, choose the Padding colour.
  4. 4Enter the Output Width in pixels. The height is worked out for you and shown beneath the field.
  5. 5Click Convert Aspect Ratio and download the result.

FAQ

Should I crop or pad?

Crop to fill gives a full-frame picture but loses the edges, so it is right for photos where the subject is central. Fit with padding keeps every part of the image and adds bars of your chosen colour, which suits logos, screenshots and product shots that must not be trimmed.

Can I choose which part is kept when cropping?

No. The crop is always centred. If the subject is off-centre, crop it manually first with the Image Crop tool, then convert the ratio.

Will my image be enlarged?

It can be. The output is always the width you type, so a small image asked to become 1080 px wide is scaled up and will look softer. Set the width no higher than your original if you want to avoid that.

Is the padding transparent?

No, it is filled with the colour picker's value (white unless you change it), even for PNG. If you need transparent bars, use the Canvas Resize tool instead.

Are the ratio options limited?

Yes, there are six presets and no custom ratio field. For arbitrary exact dimensions use the Image Resizer, which takes width and height directly.
