The whole image is scaled to fit and centred on a canvas of exactly the size above; the empty area is filled with the padding colour (JPEG output) or that colour is used as the fill for all formats.

How to Use

  1. 1Add one image by dropping it on the upload area or choosing it from your device.
  2. 2Enter the Width (px) and Height (px) of the finished canvas. The defaults are 800 and 600.
  3. 3Pick a 'Padding colour' with the colour picker (white by default).
  4. 4Click 'Resize Canvas'.
  5. 5Download the result, which is exactly the size you entered.

FAQ

Will small images be enlarged?

Yes. The image is scaled to fit the canvas, so an image smaller than the canvas is scaled up until it touches the width or height limit. If you only want to add space around it without changing its size, this tool does not do that.

Can the padding be transparent?

No. The tool always fills the empty area with the colour from the picker, even for PNG output, so it cannot produce transparent borders.

How is this different from cropping or resizing?

Cropping cuts pixels away and a normal resize changes the image's proportions or overall size. Canvas Resize keeps the whole picture and its ratio and adds coloured bars where the ratio does not match. If you would rather fill the frame and lose the edges, use the Image Resizer or Social Media Resize tool.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The canvas is built in your browser and the file stays on your device.
