Each of these exists as its own page, and the only thing this adds is doing them together. That matters more than it sounds, because running them separately means downloading a file, finding it, uploading it to the next tool, and repeating — four times over. Here you tick what you want once and download one finished document.

That is worth a moment's thought, because some orders make more sense than others. Flattening before compressing means the compressor works on the final content. Adding page numbers last means the numbers are not affected by anything that follows. If you are unsure, the order they are listed in is a reasonable default and the one most people want.
Compress re-saves more efficiently, Flatten turns form fields into page content, Remove Metadata blanks the document properties, and Add Page Numbers stamps every page.
None of them touches the words or pictures on your pages. Compress works on the file's structure rather than re-encoding images, so a scan-heavy document will not shrink dramatically. Flatten is permanent and cannot be undone. Remove Metadata clears title, author and similar fields but leaves the creation and modification dates. A filled form headed to an institution usually wants flattening and page numbers. A document going onto a public website usually wants its metadata cleared and its size trimmed. Because those combinations repeat, doing them in one pass saves real time on a batch of files. Always open the result and check it before sending, since several of these changes cannot be reversed.
Usually not by much. In this tool Compress only clears the title, author, subject, keywords, creator and producer fields and re-saves the file. It does not recompress images or fonts, so a PDF full of photos will stay about the same size.
Yes. Steps run in the order you tick them. Each step re-opens the file, and the PDF library re-stamps some metadata fields when it does, so if you want metadata cleared, tick Remove Metadata last.
No. The Add Page Numbers step uses fixed settings: bottom centre, 10 pt Helvetica, numbering from 1, with no prefix or suffix. For other positions or a start number, use the separate Add Page Numbers tool.
No. All four steps run in your browser and the PDF is not sent to a server. Very large files depend on your device memory.
