Text recovery, not a visual clone

The tool reads the text on every page and writes it into a .docx, one paragraph per line, with a page break between pages.

Lines are rebuilt by grouping words that sit at about the same height on the page and ordering them left to right. Wide gaps are kept as extra spaces. Nothing else is carried over: fonts, sizes, bold or italic, images, headers and footers, and multi-column arrangement are all lost. There are no settings to choose, just one Convert to Word button.

Input and limits

One PDF at a time, up to 200 MB, and it must contain a real text layer.

PDFs exported from word processors, web browsers or reports usually have a text layer and convert well. A PDF that is a photograph or a scan of paper has none; that gives empty pages, since this tool does not perform OCR. Everything runs in your browser, so a very long document depends on your device's memory.

When it is the right tool

Use it when you need the words from a text PDF to reuse or edit, and do not care how they were laid out.

• Copying the body of a report into a new document to rewrite it. • Getting a contract's wording into a file you can search and quote. • Pulling text from a long PDF where selecting and copying in a viewer is awkward. For a scanned PDF, run OCR PDF instead, which reads text from page images. For a PDF that is mostly a table, try PDF to Excel. If you only want the reverse direction, Word to PDF does that.

What to expect afterward

Plan on some cleanup after conversion.

Expect to rejoin lines that wrapped, reapply headings and fonts, and rebuild tables and images by hand. If exact appearance matters more than editability, keep working from the original PDF. Check numbers and dates in particular, because a line that was split unexpectedly can separate a value from its label.

FAQ

Why is my converted Word file empty or nearly empty?

Your PDF is probably a scan, meaning each page is a picture with no real text inside. This tool does not run OCR. Use the OCR PDF tool first to get text, then work from that.

Will the Word file look like my PDF?

No. Fonts, colours, images, tables and columns are not reproduced. Text lines are read from the page and written as plain paragraphs, so you get the words, not the design.

Are tables preserved?

No. Table cells come out as lines of text, with no table structure. For simple tabular data, the PDF to Excel tool splits lines on wide gaps into columns and may serve better.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The PDF is read and the .docx is built in your browser; the file is not sent to a server for this job.

Does line breaking match the PDF?

Each visual line in the PDF becomes its own paragraph, so a sentence that wraps across three lines becomes three paragraphs. Expect to rejoin lines when you edit.
